Rail anchors, crafted from spring steel, are engineered to securely fasten the steel rail onto its base, thereby preventing longitudinal movement—known as "creeping"—which can occur due to temperature variations, gradients, traffic patterns, and the braking actions of trains.
Rail anchors are affixed directly to the rail base and abut the tie. They offer an extensive bearing surface against both the rail base and the railroad tie, which prevents cutting and wearing, thereby extending the service life of the railroad ties. Anchors are designed for a particular rail weight and base width and can be categorized into two types: Drive-on rail anchors and Spring-type rail anchors.
