Ł39 Rail Fishplate

The Ł39 rail fishplate (often written as L39) is a specialized steel joint bar designed to securely connect and align S39 railway rails. Also known as L39 splice bars, they maintain track continuity, ensuring heavy loads and vibrations cross track joints smoothly and safely.

How Ł39 Rail Fishplates Work

• Load Sharing: Fishplates are typically installed in pairs (one on each side of the rail) and bolted tightly together. This allows them to distribute the weight of passing cars evenly across the joint, preventing the track from twisting, breaking, or separating. 

• Thermal Movement: While bolted tightly, fishplates are designed to permit the small, managed expansions and contractions of the steel track caused by shifting temperatures.

• Shock Reduction: They help soak up the bumps and impacts caused by train wheels passing over track joints.
